With everything else being equal, having a global ruler would solve many of the problems of the anarchic international system (e.g., totalitarianism and state-sponsored conflict and terrorism). These are my three:

Universal healthcare for all people.
A global framework for drastically reducing anthropogenic climate change (probably a cap-and-trade system)
Create a robust legal system with capable institutions for international criminal, public (state vs state), and private (corporate) law. I wouldn’t rule as a despot now. :P

And that is what you get for asking someone in international relations a question like that!

This is tough, but I would say it would be Spain. I would not spend time on the beaches like most tourists because Spain is like a microcosm of everything you can find in Europe from Ireland, the Alps, southern France, and even Morocco.

Every type of food and drink: cider and hearty stews in Asturias, wines in La Rioja, tapas and beer in Madrid, the best cured ham in the world in Andalucia, and paella in Barcelona.

It is also a pretty cheap country to travel in compared to the rest of Europe.

I already know the language and have wanted to go for more than 7 years now, but seem to end up everywhere else in Europe.

I couldn’t hate a place that has real siestas! I love sleep!

And it has thousands of years of history, sometimes in the same city or building. There are roman aqueducts, Moorish palaces, monasteries and thousand-year-old cathedrals, and modern architucture and painting (surrealism especially).

With all of this, who would not want to go?!

Kirpeä - adj. (KEER•peh•a with an ‘a’ as in ‘cat’) - tart (flavor); crisp (weather); e.g., Mutristin suutani koska mehu oli liian kirpeä, I puckered my lips because the juice was too tart.

I didn’t know kirpeä could be used for weather too. I like to discover foreign words that mean several things that are unrelated in English but have some connection in that foreign culture. It makes you think out of the box.

are the leading cause of epilepsy in the world. Some tapeworms live in humans but when they “release” their eggs certain animals like pigs will eat them. The eggs embed themselves into the pig’s muscle to infect humans who eat unclean, undercooked pork. If you happen to ingest an egg, the egg will go anywhere in your body - muscles, lungs, etc. - and if it gets into the brain and hatches, it causes epilepsy.

Thousands are protesting in Spain right now against government and corporate corruption and the two-party system, and there are only five news outlets covering it, the largest one being Global Voices. Why? Well, the Spanish are corrupting the very type of people who run the major news outlets, so there's no real advantage to them to report on it. Since when did the news become a 1984-esque selective system that only tells the truth when it's beneficial to the people at the top?

Welcome to 1984, America. That’s where we’re at, and what we’ve evolved into.

NPR and El Mundo (Spain’s major left-leaning newspaper) is covering it. The onus of the protests are really the austerity measures that the Spanish government has had to implement. While everyone thinks their government is corrupt and I don’t know how corrupt the Spanish government is, the Spanish people are angry that unemployment is at about 20 per cent and the government has to cut spending and wages drastically to prevent a default on their national debt. The people are trying to hold politicians and bankers responsible for everything that went wrong despite the Spanish government having a big budget surplus and investing in good, long-term projects before the Financial Crisis. Yes, Spain’s cajas (local banks that are the most prominent banks in the country) were poorly run and invested in bad real estate ventures during the huge property bubble that was larger proportional to the Spanish economy than America’s.

What looks like the Man and Big Business trying to prevent reforms or news of reforms spreading is actually the same thing that is happening in Ireland and Greece: people are mad at bankers and politicians because a few of them made bad decisions years ago, which wouldn’t have been a problem if international banks didn’t fail causing the international crisis. But they are angry and someone has to be blamed.

The frownie faces were because smoking (tobacco, though it depends how much weed you smoke), piercings on men, and tattoos are big turn-offs for me. It was easier than writing something out.

I like cooperative games, RPGs, or strategy games (especially city-building games like SimCity). Certain competitive games like MarioKart are really fun, but like I said about my self-esteem in another TMI Q&A I am not a big fan of FPS because I die all the time and don’t feel like practicing.
